Aalan Gård is a family-run farm in Vestvågøy, Lofoten. They keep goats and produce ecological cheese and herbs. The people at Aalan Gård have been innovators within their field, and were one of the very first in North Norway to start up with a farm shop and cheese factory. Aalan Gård has received many awards, including awards for their cheese products and as best market seller.
Aalan Gård is run by Tove and Knut Åland. There are not many goat farmers left in Nordland, but what also makes Aalan Gård interesting, is the fact that they have focussed on alternative sources of income.
The farm is a visitor’s farm with a farm shop and cheese factory where they make brown and white goat’s cheese, feta cheese, fresh cheese with herbs, curds, etc. Another important product is their ecological herb production, including herb seasonings, herb tea and herb vinegar. The farm is also used as an educational resource as part of the teaching at local schools and school camps. Furthermore, they practice Green Care and are members of, amongst other things, Rural Tourism and Traditional Food in Norway.
